Season 9 started on Monday the 4th of January, immediately following the winter break. Season 8 games continue while season 9 is in progress. There will be no changes to the postseason, as leadership has voted to see how the first moonrise season goes before making too many changes at once.

In season 9: – 2v2s will be hosted on a large (324 tiles) map – 3v3s will be hosted on a huge (400 tiles) map – Water world is banned. The hosting team may choose from the remaining 4 map types (drylands, archipelago, lakes, and continents) – There will be some limitations on tribe picks, though these are yet to be decided.
