Season 18 Christmas update (week 8)

Hey guys! Welcome to the first (public) update on how the season is going. Unfortunately we’ll have to do it without the graphics this time as Vorce is catching up to life after being sick, but I’m sure you’ll manage just fine with the old school discord screenshots, right? Let’s get right into it!

14 games have ended already in bronze, but because of the sheer size of this league this means a lot of teams have only had one or two games ending so far. Starting with the teams that haven’t won a game yet, we have Narwhals and Phantoms at one loss so far (against Chameleons and Flames) – which is not enough to really say anything about the trajectory they’re on for this season. Voyagers have made a rough debut though, starting off at 0-2 after losses to Bandits and Ravens.

Moving on, we have two teams with a win already, but also two losses, making for not exactly an exciting start to the season so far for Huskies and Ravens. Huskies lost to Axolotls and Electrons and beat Flames, while Ravens took losses against Overcast and Chameleons. Just above them is Overcast at 1-1, a solid start to the season after the aforementioned win against ravens but a loss against the chart-topping Bandits. Axolotls won one game so far and therefore are the only unbeaten team in Bronze, but its a bit early to draw conclusions from that.

Flames find themselves in fourth place, most recently adding a surprise win against league leaders Bandits with near-zero comms. Entering the top three, we have Chameleons and Electrons both at 2-1. Their wins have been mentioned before, and both have taken a loss to the top team Bandits, who have massively surprised with a great 4-0 start to the season, but since took a loss to Flames. This makes them the main title contender at this point, but the season is still long. They’re almost guaranteed to at least stay above the split with Copper next season either way.

Silver has been rather uneventful so far, with just 5 games ending so far. Some interesting trends in the title race are already visible though, with Thundercats starting off 2-0 with wins against Reapers (who kick off at 0-1) and against fellow title contender Sohei. Sohei and the third strong team in Silver, Squids, both start at 1-1, with both taking a win over Jets while Squids suffered first blood against Rainclouds, who settle for second after the first blows in the season. At the bottom are Jets, who, after taking two losses against promotion contenders, can likely forget about promoting up to Silver already. We’ll end with Valkyries, the only team in any tier at 0-0. Boring!

Gold saw developments a lot like expected in the 9 games that ended so far. Dragons and Wildfire are mopping the floor with the competition, and all other teams have taken one or two losses against them. The only surprise here was Wyverns upsetting Wildfire, which gives housemates dragons the lead in the division as they are still unbeaten. It seems like Gold will have two teams clearly promoting, fighting each other for the title. I don’t know about you, but I am definitely looking forward to seeing how the games between these two giants play out! The other 5 teams will likely be fighting off each other in a tense relegation fight, but much is still to be seen as none of the games between any of these teams have ended already.

Despite being half the size of bronze, Platinum has had almost the same amount of games ending. Some surprising developments here are Arctic Wolves getting a massive lead over the rest, with wins against all other teams. Wokou took two losses to Arctic Wolves, and will need a miracle to not get relegated here after also taking losses against Lightning (twice) and Tempest. They did get a win over housemates Ronin, who start off at a disappointing 2-3 but did take wins against the other big teams, Lightning and Arctic Wolves (but also a loss against both). Lightning are just above at 3-2, but also seem unlikely to contest for the title from here after AW’s great start. Tempest are the uncertain factor, with just two games complete so far. It seems likely that Arctic Wolves go on to win the title fairly easily from here, but it’s not over yet. What might be more interesting is the fight between Ronin, Lightning and Tempest to avoid relegation – going down to gold is not wat these teams want.

I hope you enjoyed catching up to the events so far. If you want to know more about a specific game, you can join the discord server. I’ll see you next time!
